FIRST WEUCO SUMMIT
On 21 March 2018, from 13:00 to 15:00, in room PHS6B001, the European Parliament hosted the first edition of the Women’s European Council (WEUCO), organised by the European Women Alliance Association (EWA) together with the Vice-presidents of the European Parliament Mairead McGUINNESS, Evelyne GEBHARDT and Heidi HAUTALA.
The summit aimed at framing the EU agenda to take into account the gender perspective, ahead of the European Council on 22 and 23 March 2018. It has gathered MEPs, Commissioners and Council of the European Union’s representatives, to discuss tangible actions to address gender inequality.

The document of conclusions adopted by the Vice-Presidents of the Parliament, MEPs, European Commissioners and Representatives of the Council of the EU has stressed the need for the EU to engage in a meaningful way regarding gender mainstreaming policies, legislation and actions to bring tangible progress towards gender equality.
The document of conclusions has established WEUCO as a permanent forum of discussion and debate to set gender equality as a high priority on the EU political agenda.
The document of conclusions has been endorsed by the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and transmitted by European Women Alliance to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
